The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has strongly criticized Peter Obi, the candidate who represented the opposition platform in the 2023 presidential election, expressing deep concern over what it described as his “troubling lack of character, candour, and dignity.”

The sharp rebuke came in an official press statement released on Friday evening, October 9, 2026, from the APC Presidential Campaign Secretariat in Abuja, signed by the council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake.

The ruling party’s council was reacting to remarks made by Obi during a recent interview broadcast on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). In the interview, Obi reportedly asserted: “I don’t like going back to the past. I won the last election. There’s no evidence, but I won the election. Everything is not based on evidence.”

Lashing out at the former Anambra State governor, the APC Campaign Council stated that nothing was more alarming than a high-profile politician claiming electoral victory while openly acknowledging a total absence of supporting facts.

”Mr. Peter Obi continues to demonstrate a troubling lack of character, candour, and dignity,” the council stated in the release. “For a candidate who placed a distant third in the presidential poll to persistently insist he won, without evidence and contrary to all official records, reflects a deep and troubling disconnection from reality and absolute disregard for facts and truth.”

The council reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election decisively, a result confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and subsequently upheld by both the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal and the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The spokesperson questioned the source of Obi’s claims, accusing him of relying on unsubstantiated conjectures and online echo chambers rather than verified data.

Reminding Obi of his prior public pledge to withdraw from future presidential contests if his past administration in Anambra State left behind liabilities, the council urged him to act honourably and fulfill that promise, pointing to recent financial disclosures released by the Anambra State government.

As of the time of reporting, neither Peter Obi nor his media team has issued a formal reply to the latest statement from the APC Campaign Secretariat.
