The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of laying the foundation for Nigeria’s prevailing insecurity, insisting that the challenges faced today are direct consequences of their misrule while in government.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said Atiku lacks the moral ground to criticize President Bola Tinubu’s administration on security, given his alleged complicity in policies that weakened the nation’s defense and security architecture during PDP’s 16 years in power.
“From the festering insurgency in the North-East to the proliferation of arms and collapse of military morale, the PDP government, where Atiku was a major player, sowed the seeds of today’s insecurity. The APC government inherited a broken system and has since been working tirelessly to rebuild it,” Morka said.
The ruling party stressed that the Tinubu administration is implementing comprehensive reforms in security, including recruitment of personnel, investment in modern equipment, and improved coordination among security agencies.
According to the APC, recent successes against bandits, kidnappers, and oil thieves are proof that the government is on the right track, even if the impact is not yet fully felt across the country.
The party urged Nigerians not to be swayed by Atiku’s criticisms, which it described as “political rhetoric designed to mask PDP’s failures.”
“Rather than playing the blame game, the opposition should admit its historical responsibility for Nigeria’s woes. President Tinubu is confronting these inherited problems with courage, and Nigerians must rally behind him,” the statement added.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability, assuring citizens that insecurity will be significantly curtailed as government reforms begin to yield deeper results.
