The time-honoured axiom that everopyday is for the thief but one day is for the owner of the house was made manifest on Monday at Obukpa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, as a middle-aged man was electrocuted while allegedly stealing armoured cables from one of the transformers in the community.
An eyewitness told Daily Query that the deceased criminal came with about four other persons in a mini bus with registration number BLF 203 XA.
According to him, they pretended to be EEDC officials on a special mission but when one of them was electrocuted, the rest took to their heels, abandoning the deceased on the spot.
He said that “it took the curious eyes of some community to discover that a man was lying lifeless on the foot of their transformer.”
“We discovered that they came with this minibus to steal armoured cables at Ihe Primary school Obukpa last night.
“Immediately the guy was electrocúted, the others ran away and left this minibus behind. The victim was burnt beyond recognition,” the eyewitness said.
It was gathered that some irate youths who saw what was happening ransacked the vehicle and recovered some items which included a National ID card as well an Anambra State Vigilante ID card bearing Igweze Chugo Fabian.
“Another item recovered included an aging handset. When they called his wife who stays at Nnewi, she expressed her surprise, saying she was with him throughout Monday evening, wondering when he left Nnewi to perpetrate such a crime,” the eyewitness further disclosed.

However, all efforts to get the reaction of Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, proved abortive as he was not picking his calls.
