The Anambra State Government has called on commercial transportation operators across the state to support its efforts to end the sit-at-home by resuming full operations on Mondays.
The Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, made the appeal during a one-day training and retraining programme for commercial drivers and riders held in Awka on Tuesday.
Mefor stressed that the full participation of transporters was critical to restoring normal economic activities, particularly on Mondays, which have been adversely affected by the sit-at-home order in parts of the South-East.
“The transport sector is key in helping to take back our Mondays. Traders are complying with the government’s efforts but struggle with transportation, affecting their businesses and customers,” he said.
He noted that while many traders have shown willingness to open their shops, limited transportation options have continued to hinder the free movement of goods and people, thereby slowing economic recovery.
The commissioner urged drivers and riders to collaborate with the government in rebuilding public confidence, assuring them of the state’s commitment to ensuring security and stability across all communities.
The training programme, according to officials, was also aimed at reinforcing safety standards, professionalism, and the importance of transport operators in driving economic growth in the state.
