The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with the Adamawa State Police Command, dismantled an interstate child stealing, abduction, and trafficking syndicate operating in Uruagu, Nnewi North Local Government Area, rescuing 11 children on July 15, 2025.
The operation led to the arrest of a 43-year-old female suspect, Uche Okoye, identified as a key figure in the trafficking network, with preliminary investigations revealing that the children, aged three to six, were abducted from Adamawa and sold for adoption in Anambra for N1.5 million per boy and N800,000 per girl, according to statements from SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra Police spokesperson.
The intelligence-driven raid, conducted by operatives from the Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, uncovered the syndicate’s operations, with the rescued children, five boys and six girls, handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Police Shuaibu Wara of the Adamawa Command for reunification with their families. Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the collaborative effort and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling trafficking networks.
