The Chairman Managing Director, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barr. Chike Maduekwe says in 2026, enforcement procedures will be strengthened through constant engagement with the public.
Speaking in an interview with House of Assembly Correspondents after the bilateral discussion and budget defence before the House Committee on lands Mmaduekwe maintained that most times, people don’t even understand the reason why they should come for approval.
“If you dont come for approval, you may build on a water-way and it will be brought down. You may build something that is not structurally strong, It may collapse and kill me.
“Anytime you want to build, please come, its not soo expensive. Come with your plan, we are ready to help.
If check to know weather it is consonants with the scheme of tha area or nuisance to the public.
“Those who did not come for approval before building, we are opening another window from now to February 2026, what we call operation show your building permit. If you dont have, come so that we check the materials and all the documents required.
“Government does not exist to punish people, inflict pain or hardship. We are there to make sure your life is good.
“This year (2025), we generated 739 million but if we have our portal working, we can make up to minimum of two billion for government.
Some people see physical planning board as enemies but we are not. We dont take plasure in bringing down buildings but sometimes, you must do it because some people have taken impunity to another level.
“We are pleading with those who think impunity is the order of the day, to come and assist the government to do proper planning so that Anambra doesn’t develop into a slump”.
