The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has dismissed reports suggesting that she is at loggerheads with the party’s governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
In a statement issued by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Tony Ezike, from the Office of the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Ekwunife described the publication as a mischievous fabrication sponsored by elements within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to sow discord within the APC ahead of the November 8 election.
According to Ezike, the fresh controversy surrounding the Anambra State Governorship Election Peace Accord, held on Monday, arose from a misleading video circulated by Governor Charles Soludo’s media team.
The viral clip, released by Soludo’s media aide, Ambassador Izuchukwu Adichie, allegedly featured a manipulated voiceover designed to misrepresent events at the venue and suggest a disagreement involving Senator Ekwunife.
Ezike explained that eyewitness accounts from the APC delegation confirmed that Senator Ekwunife was officially invited by the organisers to represent the APC Governorship Candidate, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu (MFR), who had not yet arrived at the time.
“Upon arrival at the venue, Senator Ekwunife realised that Prince Ukachukwu had already joined the event and was seated. Given her tight schedule of community engagements, she courteously informed him that she would proceed with her itinerary since the candidate was now present,” Ezike stated.
He further explained that the APC State Chairman, Hon. Basil Ejidike, requested Ekwunife to return and exchange pleasantries with Governor Soludo. However, she politely declined, explaining that she was already running behind schedule, as community members were waiting for her at several locations.
Ejidike, according to Ezike, confirmed that he personally escorted Senator Ekwunife to her convoy as she departed the venue peacefully.
The APC media team strongly condemned what it described as the “deliberate manipulation” of the video clip, accusing Governor Soludo’s camp of attempting to distort the truth for political gain.
“This act of misrepresentation, on the very day candidates were committing to a peace accord, clearly demonstrates that Governor Soludo and his team are not genuinely committed to a peaceful, issue-based election,” the statement read.
The APC campaign organisation urged the public to disregard what it termed the “politically motivated antics” of Soludo’s media handlers, describing the incident as a desperate distraction from the failures of the APGA-led administration in Anambra State.
“As the election draws near, Anambra people are becoming increasingly aware of the propaganda tactics deployed by those afraid of accountability. Their deceitful narratives will soon crumble as voters make their voices heard at the polls,” the statement stated.
The APC also called on Ndi Anambra to remain vigilant, resist attempts to distort facts, and focus on the substance of each party’s manifesto. It emphasized that the November 8 election should be a contest of ideas and development visions, not a battle of propaganda and deception.
