Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Amaechi, who made the announcement while addressing party stakeholders in Abuja on Thursday, said his decision was borne out of a commitment to provide visionary leadership and rescue Nigeria from its current socio-economic challenges.
He noted that Nigeria was at a critical crossroads and needed a leader with experience, courage, and a clear sense of direction to unify the country and drive sustainable development.
“I have consulted widely across the six geopolitical zones, and I believe strongly that our people desire a new approach to governance — one anchored on accountability, security, and economic revival. With humility and determination, I declare today my intention to seek the presidential ticket of the ADC in 2027,” Amaechi said.
The former Rivers State governor praised the ADC for what he described as its “growing credibility as a people-centered party,” adding that the platform provided him with the right space to actualize his vision for Nigeria.
Party leaders at the event welcomed his declaration, noting that his entry into the race would further strengthen the ADC’s chances of competing strongly in the 2027 elections.
Political observers say Amaechi’s move marks a significant shift in the political landscape, as he seeks to rebrand his image outside the two dominant parties, the APC and PDP, where he had previously played prominent roles.
With his formal declaration, Amaechi joins a growing list of aspirants eyeing the 2027 presidential race, signaling what many predict will be one of the most competitive primaries in the ADC’s history.
