Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Wednesday swore in Justice Christine Ende as a High Court judge, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary and upholding the rule of law.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Makurdi, Alia described the judiciary as the last hope of the common man and commended its role in sustaining justice and public confidence in democratic institutions.
The governor said Justice Ende’s appointment was in recognition of her distinguished career spanning more than three decades in legal practice, judicial administration, human rights advocacy and public service.
According to him, her professional experience includes service with African Bank Plc, the National Human Rights Commission and the Federal High Court.
There she served as Deputy Chief Registrar and Admiralty Marshal, adequately prepared her for the responsibilities of the Bench.
Alia disclosed that the appointment increased the number of judges in the Benue State judiciary from 32 to 33, while the number of female judges rose from 13 to 14.
He said the development reflected his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity and the advancement of women in leadership positions.
The governor reiterated his administration’s “He for She” philosophy, stressing that sustainable development could only be achieved when women are given equal opportunities to contribute their talents, skills and expertise to nation-building.
He charged the newly sworn-in judge to uphold the Constitution and discharge her duties with integrity, courage, independence and fairness.
Alia also commended the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Benue State Judicial Service Commission and the leadership of the state judiciary for their roles in the appointment process.
He assured that his administration would continue to support the judiciary in strengthening justice delivery and promoting the rule of law across the state.
The governor congratulated Justice Ende on her elevation and wished her a successful and impactful career on the bench.
In her acceptance speech, Ende expressed gratitude to God for His grace, mercy, strength and guidance throughout her journey to becoming a High Court judge.
She also appreciated Gov. Alia for his moral, spiritual and unwavering support, which she said contributed significantly to her elevation.
The new judge thanked the Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice Maurice Ikpambase, and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Cosmos Idye.
They are members of the National Judicial Council and the Benue State Judicial Service Commission for the confidence reposed in her and their contributions to her appointment.
Ende paid tribute to her late parents, acknowledging their sacrifices, prayers, discipline and commitment, which laid the foundation for her academic and professional success.
She pledged to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, integrity and nation-building in the discharge of her duties.
