Professor Bolaji Akinwande Akinyemi has distanced himself from a series of online publications attributed to him under the name “Dr. Bolaji O. Akinyemi,” which his legal representatives say were falsely linked to him and accompanied by his photographs. According to a statement issued by F.O. Fagbohungbe & Co. on August 11, the publications, critical of the federal government, were allegedly circulated maliciously to mislead the public and have generated confusion, with several people seeking clarifications from the former foreign affairs minister.
The statement stressed that Professor Akinyemi has no relationship with Dr. Bolaji O. Akinyemi and is not the author of any articles under that name. His lawyers described the misattribution as a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation as a respected elder statesman, nationalist, and patriot who has played a key role in Nigeria’s development. They argued that linking him to those writings was an effort to undermine his long-standing personal and professional credibility.
Professor Akinyemi, through his counsel, reiterated his loyalty and patriotism to Nigeria, adding that he would never engage in any act capable of tarnishing the country’s image or the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The legal team unequivocally disowned the disputed publications and called on the public to note the distinction between their client and the other individual bearing a similar name, warning against further circulation of the materials.
