Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, is set to launch direct flights from Lagos to São Paulo, Brazil, following a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) signed during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil on August 25, 2025. The agreement, finalized after a two-hour bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília, aims to boost trade, tourism, and cultural ties between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s biggest market.
President Lula announced, “We have approved the launch of a direct flight, to be operated by Nigeria’s largest airline company, Air Peace, between Lagos and São Paulo”. The deal, signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, marks Air Peace’s first intercontinental route to South America.
The agreement was part of broader discussions that also produced MoUs on diplomatic training, biotechnology, ocean science, and agricultural financing, reflecting a push to deepen Nigeria-Brazil relations. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information, noted that the direct flights will enhance connectivity, reduce travel costs, and open new opportunities for Nigerian businesses in Latin America. While no specific launch date was confirmed, the agreement positions Air Peace to drive economic and cultural exchange between the two nations.
