Speculation over a possible joint presidential ticket involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been dismissed by Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe.
In a clarification aimed at cooling rising political discussions within opposition circles, Ibe said there had been no meeting or negotiation between Atiku and Obi regarding the ADC’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
The statement comes amid heightened interest in the ADC, which has emerged as a rallying platform for opposition figures exploring a coalition arrangement to challenge the ruling party in the next election cycle.
Much of the public discourse has focused on Atiku and Obi, both widely regarded as key political actors capable of influencing the coalition’s direction. According to Ibe, while conversations around political alliances and reforms within the opposition space are ongoing, claims that Atiku and Obi have reached or even discussed a joint ticket are unfounded.
He stressed that any reports suggesting otherwise should be treated as mere speculation. He added that Atiku remains committed to broader consultations and dialogue aimed at strengthening democratic processes and building a credible alternative for Nigerians, but cautioned against attributing specific electoral arrangements to him without confirmation.
