The Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), has urged stakeholders in the agricultural sector to adopt NAIC’s insurance products for their investments to forestall the risk of exposure to natural perils.

Mrs Folashade Joseph, Managing Director, NAIC, stated this at the train-the-trainer workshop on the application of insurance to the National Agricultural Growth Scheme Agro-Pocket (NAGS-AP) programme on Thursday in Abuja.

She said that the primary role of NAIC was to operate the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS), which is a mechanism put in place to shield farmers from the effects of natural hazards.

“The role of NAIC in the development of the agricultural sector is therefore indispensable. NAIC is as important to farmers as fertilizers or other such inputs,” she said.

Joseph said that persons into any form of agricultural business along the value chain, especially the beneficiaries of agricultural credits must insure their project with NAIC to forestall any loss in investments.

She restated the readiness of the agency to continue to partner stakeholders in the agricultural, and other sectors of the economy with sound insurance and other risk management expertise.

” I wish to use this opportunity to encourage the stakeholders across the agricultural sector to adopt NAIC insurance products for their investments to forestall the risk of exposure to natural hazards.

“These are hazards occasioned by the vagaries of weather conditions and climate change phenomenon, the potential impact of which remains prominent in our nation.

” I felicitate with all stakeholders on this great occasion and pledge that NAIC shall remain their partners in progress at all times,” she said. (NAN)
