Former Governor of Anambra State and candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, has again stridently criticised President Bola Tinubu for what the national leader of the Labour Party (LP), has consistently viewed as the profligate style of the president’s administration, accusing the president of leading a team whose lifestyles and exertions make them completely out of touch with the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
Obi, who spoke in a recent interview with NewsCentralTV, amid growing despondency in the land as Nigeria grapples with economic challenges, including rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty in the country, said Tinubu should be blamed for Nigeria’s current economic woes.
“Cost of governance with the way it is today (under Tinubu) is criminal and unacceptable. So, you can’t ask people to fast while you’re feasting,” Obi asserted.
Obi also spoke against the backdrop of trending reports detailing President Tinubu’s “lavish spending” on 1) Presidential jet upgrades estimated at between ₦50 billion and ₦100 billion (approximately $125 million and $250 million USD); 2) Tinubu reportedly purchased several high-end cars, including armoured vehicles (often proudly and insensitively displayed on national TV for starving citizens to see), for his personal use and 3) Foreign trips: Critics argue that Tinubu’s frequent international travels are unnecessary and costly.
Obi told NewsCentral that one of the most practical ways of solving Nigeria’s lingering socio-economic challenges is to drastically cut down on the cost of governance which, he lamented, has grown exponentially under the Tinubu Administration.
