Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has called on residents of the state to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Speaking during a civic engagement programme in Osogbo on Sunday, Adeleke stressed that mass participation in the exercise was vital to strengthening democracy and ensuring that the people’s voices are heard at the polls.
He noted that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remained the only legitimate means for citizens to influence governance and elect credible leaders.
“My administration is committed to free, fair, and credible elections, but this can only be achieved if our people troop out to register and collect their PVCs,” the governor said. “Let us all rise to the call of democracy by mobilising our families, friends, and communities. No eligible citizen should be left behind.”
Adeleke further urged political stakeholders, youth groups, and civil society organisations to intensify grassroots awareness campaigns, particularly in rural areas where voter apathy and registration challenges have persisted.
He assured residents that his government would provide logistical support to facilitate smooth voter registration, including outreach programmes to hard-to-reach communities.
The governor also appealed to INEC to ensure adequate machines, personnel, and transparency in the exercise to prevent disenfranchisement.
“With collective effort, Osun will set an example of inclusive and participatory democracy come 2026,” Adeleke affirmed.
INEC had earlier announced that continuous voter registration had commenced nationwide, targeting new voters, those who have changed residence, and those seeking to correct errors on their voter details.
