National chairman of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralph Okechukwu Nwosu has warned that Nigeria will collapse if the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues in power in the next seven years.
Nwosu spoke against the backdrop of preparations by his party and supporters to fully participate in the planned August 1 national protest.
In remarks today Umuahia, the Abia State capital (Thursday, July25) at the commissioning of the party’s state secretariat and official handing over of the instrument of office to the newly emerged chairman of the party in the state; Hon. Iyke Nwoke, Nwosu lamented that Nigerians had suffered the most under the APC led Government, a reason, he said, for the current agitations against the government of President Bola Tinubu by citizens.
The ADC chairman queried the wisdom of President Tinubu to hastily announce the withdrawal of fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, without due consultation, adding that the country was further sinking because Nigeria doesn’t have visionary leaders.
He blamed the excesses of the Executive on the collapse of the principles of checks and balances that guaranteed the independence of the three arms of government, which according to him, gave way to the reckless spending by both the Executive and the Legislature in the face of the present harsh economic realities without taking into consideration the adverse effects of the country’s economic situation on Nigerians.
He assured that the anomaly would change when his party gets to power in 2027.
Bemoaning the self-centeredness, greed and quest to amass wealth by the political class at the expense of the public they are supposed to be serving, Nwosu, who was a former governorship candidate of ADC in Anambra State, accused major political parties of monetizing the political space.
“Nigerians are not used to building. Most times, people attend political meetings with the mindset that he or she will be given money. We do not have visionary leaders. Politicians have criminalised society,” he lamented.
The ADC national chairman who charged members of the party to join the party’s leadership in their aggressive membership drive across the country and in Abia State in particular, boasted that the party would not only be producing the next President of the country and governor of Abia State, but would also produce both the State and National Assembly lawmakers in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the new chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Nwoke thanked the national chairman for his leadership style which he noted has kept the party united in the past 24 years.
Nwoke, while promising that the party in the state would record a great change under his watch, urged members to embark on membership drive in the 17 local government areas of the state.
