Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion and commissioning of the Abia Modular Refinery project, describing it as a game-changer for the state’s economic transformation.
Speaking on Wednesday during an inspection visit to the project site in Owazza, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Governor Otti said the refinery would not only boost energy security in the state but also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Abia youths.
According to him, the modular refinery is one of the flagship industrial projects under his administration’s drive to reposition Abia as an investment destination and reduce dependence on federal allocations.
“We are determined to deliver this project within schedule because of its strategic importance to our economic blueprint,” Otti said. “The refinery will serve as a hub for energy, industrialisation, and job creation, and we are working closely with our technical partners and investors to ensure that all challenges are addressed promptly.”
The Governor assured that his government would continue to provide an enabling environment for investors, pledging to improve infrastructure, enhance security, and fast-track approvals to encourage smooth operations.
Project engineers briefed the governor that construction was progressing steadily, with major components already procured and installation expected to commence before the end of the year.
Industry experts note that upon completion, the Abia Modular Refinery will refine petroleum products locally, reduce pressure on imported fuels, and provide feedstock for industries in the South-East and beyond.
Otti urged residents and stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing that the refinery aligns with the state’s long-term vision of inclusive development and economic independence.
“This project is not just about Abia; it is about the future of the South-East and Nigeria at large,” he added.
