Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate, is celebrating his 64th birthday today, July 19, 2025. Born in Onitsha on July 19, 1961, Obi has built a distinguished career in both business and public service. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1984, before ascending in the banking sector and later entering politics as governor, serving from 2006 to 2014 with a reputation for prudent financial management and strong reforms.
Obi’s journey into the corporate world saw him hold executive roles in various banks and financial institutions, culminating in leadership positions such as Chairman of Fidelity Bank. His tenure as governor was notable for fiscal restraint, infrastructure development, and notable educational and healthcare advancements across Anambra State. In 2019, he served as running mate to Atiku Abubakar under the PDP before contesting for president under the Labour Party in 2023.
Today, we thank Peter Obi not just for his public service, but for his deep and consistent philanthropy across Nigeria. He remains a standout voice in the Nigerian political space; measured, principled, and people-focused. At a time when the country is in dire need of true leadership, his unwavering concern for the welfare of ordinary Nigerians continues to inspire hope. A nation burdened by hardship deserves leaders who care, and Obi has proven time and again that he does.
