There are indications that the cordial relationship between the Jigawa State Government and its Kano State counterpart may be heading for difficult times following the arrest of the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara by the Kano State Hisbah Board.
It was gathered that while conservatives in the Jigawa State Government have no problem with Sankara’s humiliating arrest, others are of the view that the government of Kano State ought to have handled the situation differently
An angry official of the Jigawa State Government said: “There is no way you can embarrass him and tell yourself that you are not embarrassing the government of Jigawa State and its people. Things are not done that way.”
“Are they ( Kano) saying with clear conscience that we have not had incidents where their own officials break our state laws? Why have we not gone on a media roadshow like they have done to us?” he queried.
There has been no official statement from the Jigawa State Government on the matter so far.
It would be recalled that Kano State Hisbah Board, an agency of the Kano State government, had on Friday (October 18), confirmed the arrest of the said Commissioner in an uncompleted building in the state capital with a married woman.
The Director General of the Board, Abba Sufi added that his arrest was sequel to a series of complaints by the woman’s husband, Nasiru Bulama.
However, Sankara has since refuted the allegation. He said in a statement: “My attention has been drawn to a recent media report alleging that I, Auwal D. Sankara, Commissioner for Special Duties in the Jigawa State Government, have been arrested by the Kano Hisbah Command on charges of having an affair with a married woman.
“I wish to categorically state that these allegations are entirely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation.
“I urge the general public to disregard this fabricated story, which has been concocted by certain political elements to damage my character and integrity.
“As a married man, I have the utmost respect for the institution of marriage and would never engage in actions that violate its sanctity.
“I remain committed to upholding the values and principles that I stand for.
“I am taking this matter seriously and will pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading this false information and attempting to cause harm to my person.”
