Former Minister of Transportation and vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has warned that the recent Federal High Court ruling sacking the party’s leadership could trigger widespread civil unrest if not properly managed.

Speaking during a live broadcast interview on Mainland 98.3 FM’s The Situation Room on Friday, November 6, 2026, Amaechi cautioned against compromising judicial processes and accused the ruling party of orchestrating legal disputes to destabilize the primary opposition.

The legal crisis stems from a judgment delivered on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The presiding judge nullified the National Working Committee (NWC) led by former Senate President David Mark.

The court ruling also invalidated candidate nominations nationwide, including the presidential ticket featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate. If upheld, the verdict would bar the ADC from fielding candidates in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Detailing the immediate aftermath of the court order, Amaechi revealed that party leaders met swiftly on Thursday evening in Abuja to prevent an angry reaction from supporters across the country.

”There is no internal rift in our party, none,” Amaechi stated during his Friday radio appearance. “It is just the fear of the All Progressives Congress (APC). When they saw what happened, they began to cause a crisis that would frighten voters. The judgment, if not properly managed, could cause serious conflict.”

Amaechi urged party faithful to remain calm, confirming that the party’s legal team filed a formal appeal alongside an application for a stay of execution on Friday, November 6, 2026.

Rebuffing claims of internal disunity, ADC leadership insisted the legal challenges were manufactured externally to weaken opposition momentum.

However, spokesperson representatives for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the allegations, asserting that the judgment was strictly the outcome of an internal ADC leadership dispute and denying any involvement in the judicial proceedings.

The pending appeal and application for a stay of execution will determine whether the ADC’s leadership and national nominations remain valid as the party moves forward with its legal challenge.
