The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has hit out at Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, accusing it of implementing anti-people policies and calling for a total overhaul in governance ahead of the 2027 general elections. The criticism was contained in an official press statement issued on Saturday, November 7, 2026, by the PDP Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Ogunbiyi, at the party’s state secretariat in Ikeja, Lagos.
Ogunbiyi accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of insensitivity, high-handedness, and leadership failure, asserting that recent state policies continue to undermine the economic welfare and healthcare access of Lagos residents. ”This is not governance; it is a betrayal of trust,” Ogunbiyi stated. “Lagosians expected Governor Sanwo-Olu to protect and build on the achievements of his predecessors.
Instead, this administration has repeatedly disappointed residents through actions that demonstrate total disrespect for the public.” In outlining the party’s grievances, Ogunbiyi condemned the state government’s decision to impose charges on solar energy installations within government estates, arguing that the levy contradicts the Federal Government’s green energy initiative and unfairly punishes citizens seeking alternative power solutions amidst national grid instability.
He also slammed the introduction of new levies on private borehole drilling, describing the tax as an unjust financial burden on households already struggling with widespread public water supply failures. Turning to social infrastructure, the opposition spokesman raised alarm over an additional ₦200,000 emergency deposit demanded from patients at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), layered on top of an existing ₦230,000 requirement, labeling the policy a callous measure for a public healthcare institution.
Declaring that the need for a political shift in Lagos is no longer debatable, Ogunbiyi called on residents to reject the current APC-led administration at the polls in 2027 and rally behind the PDP and its governorship candidate, Deji Doherty. The party urged Lagosians to embrace a fresh governance model designed to reduce high living costs, revive basic public infrastructure, and restore accountability to the state’s leadership.
