Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, declared on Thursday, November 5, 2026, that security challenges across Nigeria’s Middle Belt region have recorded a measurable decline under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking on Thursday evening in Abuja, Dogara highlighted the restored safety along the crucial Abuja-Kaduna highway as tangible proof of progress made by the nation’s security agencies under President Tinubu’s leadership.

“There has been remarkable improvement. Short of declaring victory, but there has been remarkable improvement,” Dogara stated, emphasizing that travelers along the historically volatile transport corridor are experiencing heightened safety compared to previous years.

Dogara’s remarks on Thursday follow earlier commentary delivered during the 16th Convocation Ceremony of Achievers University in Owo, Ondo State, where he serves as Chancellor.

Speaking at the university auditorium alongside Pro-Chancellor Prof. Bode Ayorinde and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Omolola Irinoye, Dogara pointed out that terrorism, insurgency, and banditry were deeply entrenched long before President Tinubu took office in May 2023.

“Insecurity in Nigeria did not begin with this administration. This is no excuse, because the facts need no defence,” Dogara stated, noting that while complex security issues predate 2023, current operational strategies are yielding notable successes.

The Abuja-Kaduna axis, a critical transport route connecting the Federal Capital Territory to northern commercial centers, had previously suffered severe disruptions, including the infamous March 28, 2022 train attack. However, recent security deployments and federal infrastructure investments have significantly stabilized the area.

Dogara urged Nigerians to remain patient and support ongoing federal initiatives aimed at tackling remaining pockets of banditry and economic hardship across the Middle Belt and broader northern regions.
