In a major boost to Nigeria’s aviation sector, Enugu Air, the state-owned airline of Enugu State, officially secured regulatory approval on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to operate the high-demand Lagos–London Gatwick route.
Under a new strategic partnership model designed to optimise operational efficiency and fast-track international service, charter operator Omni-Blu Aviation has been appointed as the designated operator to manage flight operations, aircraft provision, and crew services.
The long-haul international service is scheduled to launch officially on December 1, 2026, featuring four weekly flights connecting passengers from Enugu to London via Lagos. By securing London Gatwick Airport as its UK destination, the carrier aims to capture significant passenger traffic while providing a streamlined transit experience for travelers.
Speaking at a morning press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, representatives speaking on behalf of Enugu Air executive management highlighted that the expansion directly fulfills the broader economic roadmap laid out by Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah.
”The approval marks a pivotal step in Enugu Air’s expansion into the global aviation landscape,” stated the airline’s management. “This development aligns seamlessly with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to position Enugu State as an emerging regional hub for international connectivity, trade, tourism, and direct foreign investment.”
Aviation analysts note that partnering with Omni-Blu Aviation allows Enugu Air to scale its international footprint rapidly while avoiding the heavy capital expenditure and long lead times associated with direct fleet acquisition.
The new service is expected to significantly ease transit challenges for business and leisure travelers from Nigeria’s South-East region, lowering overall travel costs while expanding air freight capacity for domestic exporters. Ticket sales for the inaugural December flights are now open across authorised booking platforms.
