The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to property owners, landlords, and individuals across Nigeria who rent out properties to terrorists or host preparatory meetings for extremist groups, cautioning that they face prosecution and a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act (TPPA), 2022.

The warning was delivered on Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2026, during a press briefing in Abuja following the conclusion of the 11th phase of the terrorism suspects’ trial.

Speaking on behalf of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Mijinyawa Zakari, a director in the Legal Office of the NSA, emphasized that Nigerian law now targets not only primary perpetrators of violence but also their network of logistics facilitators, financial sponsors, and landlords.

”A careful reading of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022, will indicate that Sections 11 to 33 provide for a wide range of offences, including preparatory offences,” Zakari stated during the briefing. “Providing support to terrorism attracts a minimum sentence of 20 years. Renting your property to a terrorist is also an offence. You may not have a clear-cut direct involvement, but facilitating their activities makes you liable under the law.”

This directive marks a decisive shift in the government’s strategy toward dismantling the broader logistics networks that sustain extremist cells. Under Sections 11 through 33 of the TPPA 2022, providing logistical, financial, or spatial assistance to terrorist organizations carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 20 years imprisonment.

To enforce these measures, ONSA revealed that intelligence units are actively expanding investigations into landlord-tenant relationships and venue hosts connected to suspected cells to ensure every accomplice faces justice.

Zakari urged property owners, real estate agents, and media organisations to thoroughly familiarise themselves with the statutory provisions of the TPPA 2022 to prevent unwitting complicity in national security breaches.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining total intelligence dominance across all operational fields to systematically eliminate terrorism financing and logistical support channels nationwide.
