The Abia State Government has given a firm commitment to restore public electricity supply to Ohafia Local Government Area within one week, bringing a long-awaited end to the prolonged blackout that has paralyzed commercial activities and household operations across the ancient kingdom.

The assurance was delivered by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu, during an official address at the 2026 Ohafia Annual Leadership and Economic Summit, held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Ohafia Civic Centre.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Alex Otti, Engr. Emetu explained that the state administration, in collaboration with technical experts from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and regional security agencies, has resolved the key infrastructural and security bottlenecks that previously stalled power delivery.

He emphasized that engineers have already completed critical maintenance on damaged transformers and cleared compromised distribution lines across the local government area.

Beyond the immediate restoration of grid power within seven days, Deputy Governor Emetu outlined a broader economic revitalization package aimed at stimulating regional business growth. He revealed that the state government is rolling out a targeted agricultural support scheme to boost local food security ahead of the upcoming planting season.

Under this initiative, the state will distribute high-yield seed yams, delineate dedicated agricultural zones, and deploy heavy machinery for mechanized farming across Ohafia.

To ensure proper execution, a dedicated monitoring committee working alongside traditional agricultural leaders, including the Ndi Eze Ji and local community executives, will oversee the allocation of resources and monitor agricultural yields.

State Government Spokesperson and Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, also addressed newsmen at the venue, reiterating that rural electrification remains a cornerstone of the administration’s economic blueprint.

Presenting the traditional institution’s response, the Paramount Ruler of Ohafia, His Royal Highness Eze Uduma Kalu, expressed profound gratitude to the state executive, noting that the return of steady power supply will revitalise micro-enterprises and restore social stability throughout the historic kingdom.
