A 100-level female student of Plateau State University (PLASU) has been abducted by suspected kidnappers who also shot another resident during a late-night assault on an off-campus residential community in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack occurred at approximately 8:40 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2026, when armed assailants invaded the neighborhood housing numerous off-campus students outside the primary campus perimeter.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was accompanied by another female student when the gunmen ambushed and seized her before fleeing into the night, leaving one person wounded by gunfire.
A student of the institution, speaking on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns, confirmed the incident on Sunday, November 2, expressing deep alarm over the deteriorating security situation surrounding the school.
The student noted that the victim was seized directly from her off-campus residence, urging security agencies to intervene immediately to ensure her safe return. The violent incident marks the second reported shooting in that same residential neighborhood within a four-week period.
A representative of PLASU, who also spoke anonymously as they were not authorized to address the media publicly, confirmed that university management had received official reports regarding the shooting and abduction.
The official attributed the vulnerability of the student body largely to a severe housing deficit. Under the current administration of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shadrack Best, financial constraints have limited official university housing to approximately 1,000 students.
While the institution maintains direct security coverage over internal campus grounds, management expressed profound concern over the persistent security threats faced by the vast majority of students forced to reside in surrounding host communities.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of press time, as his phone lines remained unreachable. Security agencies in Plateau State have not yet released an official statement regarding search-and-rescue operations.
