Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested three suspects for allegedly forging an Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) identity card and recovering an unregistered vehicle suspected of being stolen.
The official statement confirming the arrests was issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramhan Nansel.
According to SP Nansel, the arrest occurred during a routine patrol operation by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit around the Bukan Sidi area of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
Police officers intercepted an unregistered Lexus IS 250 carrying three male occupants. During preliminary questioning, one occupant identified himself as Mohammed Nuhu and presented an identity card claiming to be an officer of the ICPC.
Suspicion arose when the driver of the vehicle, identified as Mohammed Umar, failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the ownership and documentation of the unregistered vehicle. Consequently, police officers detained all three occupants for further interrogation.
Further investigation revealed that the ICPC identity card produced by Mohammed Nuhu was completely forged. Under questioning, Nuhu confessed that he had traveled with the driver from Kaduna State to Lafia because Umar lacked a valid driver’s license.
Detailed profiling of the third occupant, identified as Ibrahim Suleiman, linked him to an unlawful society known as the Eiye Confraternity.
Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing to eradicate crime across the state.
CP Mohamed urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station.
The police command confirmed that the three suspects remain in custody while efforts are ongoing to trace the legitimate owner of the recovered Lexus IS 250. All three suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
