The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) issued a 24-hour ultimatum to security authorities in Sokoto State to arrest the perpetrators behind a violent attack on its governorship candidate, Alhaji Munir Dan’iya.
The directive follows a targeted ambush on Friday, October 30, 2026, along Airport Road in Sokoto Metropolis. Dan’iya was returning to the city center after accompanying Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former Governor of Sokoto State representing Sokoto South, to the airport when armed operatives, allegedly members of the state-owned security outfit known as the Sokoto Marshals, attacked his convoy.
Several vehicles in the convoy were vandalized and severely damaged. The council further alleged that two Department of State Services (DSS) personnel attached to Dan’iya were forcibly abducted by the attackers during the chaos.
Addressing journalists on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Director of Media and Publicity for the ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, described the incident as “banditry in uniform” and a dangerous attempt to suppress opposition politics in the state.
”This is not governance. It is banditry in uniform, and it must not be tolerated in a democracy,” Ologbondiyan stated during the media briefing. “We demand that the Inspector-General of Police, the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, and relevant intelligence agencies immediately apprehend those responsible and secure the safe return of the abducted security officers within 24 hours.”
The ADC campaign council noted that following the Friday attack, operatives of the state-backed security outfit mounted blockades at key entry gates into Sokoto metropolis, allegedly harassing motorists and targeting vehicles displaying ADC posters or political insignia.
The governorship candidate, Alhaji Munir Dan’iya, confirmed he has formally filed an official report on the incident at the Sokoto State Police Command Headquarters.
While state officials and political rivals have denied targeting opposition members, attributing security presence in the area to preparation for upcoming local ceremonies, police authorities have opened an investigation into the confrontation.
