African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has strongly refuted statements issued by the Ekiti State Police Command regarding an incident on Friday, October 30, 2026, at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.
Earlier on Friday, reports and social media posts indicated that Sowore and his team were confronted by armed political thugs, leading to claims that he had been abducted and his whereabouts were unknown.
The Ekiti State Police Command countered those claims in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sunday Abutu. Abutu clarified that officers swiftly responded to distress calls, rescued Sowore, and transported him to the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti for treatment after he sustained minor injuries.
”The command wishes to categorically clarify that Mr Sowore was not kidnapped,” said SP Sunday Abutu. “Rather, preliminary information indicates that he had an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant around the Dalimore area, Ado-Ekiti, following which the police were immediately alerted.”
Abutu added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Michael Falade Adegoroye, had ordered a discreet investigation into the event to identify all culpable parties and bring them to justice.
Rejecting the police framing of the event, Sowore took to his official social media accounts on Friday afternoon to insist that he and his associates were victims of a deliberate, violent assault by political thugs rather than a casual brawl.
”THERE WAS NO ALTERCATION! WE WERE ATTACKED!” Sowore stated. “The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, personally visited the scene of the brutal attack against us in Ado-Ekiti today. He saw firsthand the extensive injuries we sustained, yet he has the audacity to issue a despicable statement describing a coordinated, violent attack as a mere ‘altercation’.”
Sowore accused the police command of attempting to trivialize the severity of the violence and downplaying the extent of their injuries. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing as police authorities urge the public to refrain from spreading unverified speculation.
