The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to working closely with his running mate, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, assuring supporters that their joint leadership will deliver effective governance.
Speaking at a political event in Awka at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Obi addressed party leaders, community delegates, and civil society groups to outline the ticket’s roadmap for national recovery. Obi emphasized that his political partnership with Kwankwaso is built on mutual respect and a shared determination to address pressing national challenges.
He noted that his administration would focus on decentralizing security architecture to bolster community policing, while simultaneously investing in small and medium enterprises to stimulate job creation and curb inflation. Furthermore, the candidate pledged to declare a state of emergency on basic education to reduce the number of out-of-school children, expand primary healthcare coverage across all political wards, and implement tech-driven reforms to guarantee electoral integrity.
Reinforcing this message during a press briefing at 2:00 PM at the NDC National Secretariat in Abuja, the Director-General of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Ibrahim Abdulkarim, praised the synergy between both leaders. He described Kwankwaso’s decision to accept the vice-presidential candidacy as a patriotic move that unifies major opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Later that evening, during an appearance on Arise News at 7:00 PM, NDC National Spokesperson Mallam Yunusa Tanko confirmed that the party’s leadership structure remains fully unified. He stated that Obi and Kwankwaso will embark on a series of joint nationwide town halls starting next month to present their unified policy platform directly to voters.
