The Lagos State Police Command has detained four officers and ordered the immediate disbandment of their tactical unit following public outcry over a viral video showing personnel physically assaulting and harassing a young man in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, when amateur video footage began circulating across social media platforms, notably X (formerly Twitter). The video captured a team of armed police personnel stationed along the roadside in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, accosting a young pedestrian.

In the video, the officers were seen attempting to forcibly bundle the victim into an operational vehicle while physically assaulting him. The victim, who protested his innocence throughout the encounter, stated that he was simply walking along the thoroughfare when the tactical team stopped him without giving any valid cause or justification.

Following public indignation, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani (represented in public briefings by CP Fatai), ordered an immediate probe, leading to the arrest of the four officers involved and the full disbandment of their tactical squad.

On Friday, October 23, 2026, the Command formally paraded the detained officers at the Police State Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking on behalf of the Command during the briefing, Police Public Relations Official Mrs. Adebisi reaffirmed the police leadership’s zero-tolerance stance on brutality and lawlessness:

”Here in Lagos State Command, under the leadership of CP Fatai, we say no to impunity,” Mrs. Adebisi stated. “No uniform is a licence to intimidate, harass, or violate the rights of any citizen. The uniform is a symbol of service, trust, and responsibility, and anyone who abuses that trust must be prepared to face the consequences.”

Mrs. Adebisi commended residents and community members in Odogunyan for their swift cooperation in providing information that helped the Command identify and track down the personnel within 48 hours.

”We want to appreciate the community for their proactiveness because they assisted us in identifying these officers,” she added. “Within a short period, we were able to pick them up and bring them down to the headquarters to face disciplinary actions.”

The Command confirmed that all four officers remain in custody while internal orderly room trials and formal disciplinary proceedings continue under the directives of Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu.
