Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has commended President Bola Tinubu for infrastructure projects to strengthen transportation, trade and socio-economic activities in Northern Nigeria.
The governor made the commendation at the inauguration of Section III of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano (Zaria-Kano) Expressway, on Wednesday in Kano.
He noted that efficient road infrastructure was essential to connecting communities, facilitating the movement of goods and services, and improving the business environment.
According to him, the Kano–Zaria corridor is particularly important because of Kano’s role as a major commercial and industrial centre serving several states across the North.
“Improved transportation infrastructure is expected to support agricultural production, expand market access and create better opportunities for traders, transport operators and other businesses,” he said
Gov. Yusuf explained that sustained investment in critical infrastructure would contribute to economic growth and improve the movement of people and goods across the country.
He called for continued collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments to address infrastructure needs and accelerate development.
Yusuf also advocated greater consideration of concrete pavement technology for roads to deliver long-term value.
He further highlighted the importance of developing major bypasses and other strategic roads to improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity within the state.
Earlier, the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, said that works on the second lot of the project was nearing completion.
”The project is being executed with reinforced concrete pavement to enhance durability of the road and improve connectivity along the strategic transport corridor.
”President Bola Tinubu directed the ministry to ensure completion of the outstanding sections after contractors initially handling some portions indicated their inability to continue with the reinforced concrete pavement technology.
”The federal government subsequently took steps to complete outstanding works. The first lot valued at about N252 billion had been fully completed,” he said.
The minister said the president had also directed the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the 375-kilometre expressway to improve visibility and enhance safety of motorists travelling at night.
He said the federal government was also executing several road projects across the North-West to improve transportation and facilitate economic activities.
”This administration is committed to completing inherited road projects alongside new ones to improve connectivity and ease movement of people and goods,” he said.
The Emir of Rano, Alhaji Muhammad Isah-Umar, who spoke on behalf of traditional rulers, commended the federal government for the project.
He urged people of the state to reciprocate the gesture by supporting the second term ambition of President Tinubu in 2027.
