Two corporate entities, Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited, have submitted a formal petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking a comprehensive criminal investigation into Jordan Nyesom-Wike, son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his alleged role in a disputed $2.1 million land facilitation deal.
Published on Monday, October 19, 2026, following statements by lead counsel Ibrahim Waru detailing the criminal petition submitted to the anti-graft agency. The petition, filed through lead counsel Ibrahim Waru, urges the anti-graft agency to examine allegations of fraud, obtaining money by false pretence, criminal misappropriation, and conversion.
According to the petition, the transaction stems from a series of discussions that originated in London, where Safwan Garba first met Jordan Nyesom-Wike. Following their initial meeting, the parties agreed on a real estate facilitation arrangement in the Federal Capital Territory.
The petitioners allege that Jordan represented himself as routinely facilitating land deals with the full knowledge and approval of his father. Under the terms described in the petition:
Jordan allegedly promised to facilitate the acquisition of 60 hectares of land in prime Abuja locations, 30 hectares in Katampe Extension and 30 hectares in Guzape Extension. The petitioners claim Jordan requested $2.1 million, stating that $2 million was earmarked for his father, the FCT Minister, while $100,000 served as his personal facilitation fee.
The petition asserts that $2,100,000 in cash was physically handed to Jordan on September 26, 2025, at a private residence in Gwarinpa, Abuja. The cash exchange allegedly occurred in the presence of witnesses Adamu Sani, Aliyu Sarki, and Sai Wani, while Jordan was reportedly accompanied by Onor Sandy.
The claimants stated that they submitted supporting evidence to the EFCC alongside their petition, including correspondence and WhatsApp message logs.
Speaking in Abuja on behalf of the firms, lead counsel Ibrahim Waru emphasized that while a parallel civil lawsuit is underway, the EFCC must step in to address the criminal elements of the matter:
”We have our client’s firm instructions to submit this petition against Jordan Nyesom-Wike for the alleged offences of fraud, obtaining by false pretence, criminal misappropriation and conversion to the tune of USD 2,100,000 perpetrated against our client,” Waru stated. “While civil proceedings continue, the EFCC must examine the criminal aspects of this transaction.”
Jordan Nyesom-Wike has vehemently denied all claims, asserting under oath during court testimony that he has no business relationship with the claimants, never collected cash from them, and that his signature on disputed documents was forged.
Testifying under cross-examination at the High Court of the FCT in Maitama on September 30, 2026, Jordan Nyesom-Wike told the court: “I don’t know him. I didn’t collect or sign any document.”
He further maintained during testimony that he was not in Nigeria on the date the cash exchange was alleged to have taken place, explaining that he had travelled abroad using his American passport.
The petition to the EFCC runs alongside an active civil suit (Suit No. CV/008/2026) filed by Safwan Garba and GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Sylvester Oriji, while Following defense claims regarding international travel on the date of the alleged transaction, Justice Oriji ordered Jordan on September 30, 2026, to produce his American passport to the court.
The claimants are asking the court to order a full refund of the $2.1 million, alongside ₦100 million in general damages. Justice Oriji adjourned the civil trial to December 1, 2, and 14, 2026, for continuation.
The EFCC is evaluating the petition and attached evidence to determine whether to initiate formal criminal proceedings.
