Official data published on Sunday morning, October 18, confirmed that Over 40 corporate entities raised a total of N2.45 trillion through corporate listings on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) between January 1 and September 30, 2026, as businesses aggressively tapped the primary market to fund expansion and build resilience amid ongoing economic pressures.

The milestone was formally detailed during a market performance review presented at the NGX Group House on Customs Street in Marina, Lagos, on Friday, October 16, 2026. Official disclosures released over the weekend confirm that capital raising spanned public offers, rights issues, private placements, and corporate bond issuances.

Market analysts and exchange officials attributed the influx of primary market activities to several strategic factors.
A primary catalyst driving equity issuances has been the ongoing recapitalisation exercise across commercial banks, which prompted major lenders to launch rights issues and public offers.

Non-banking corporations actively issued long-term corporate bonds and commercial papers to refinance high-cost short-term debt and optimise balance sheets.

The adoption of digital primary market portals, notably the NGX Invest platform, significantly boosted retail investor participation across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Improved corporate performance and dividend yields maintained strong domestic investor demand despite broader inflationary and foreign exchange pressures.

Speaking during an interactive session with market stakeholders at the Exchange’s trading floor on Friday afternoon, Dr. Umaru Kwairanga, Group Chairman of NGX Group Plc, emphasized the strategic importance of the market:

”The steady capital raising on our exchange demonstrates unwavering investor confidence in the Nigerian corporate sector. Despite macroeconomic headwinds, companies are successfully raising long-term equity and debt to power sustainable growth.”

Elaborating on the operational capacity of the exchange, Mr. Jude Chiemeka, Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), stated, NGX Capital Raising Report.

“Our focus remains on enhancing market accessibility, transparency, and liquidity through digital tools like NGX Invest. Seeing over 40 issuers secure N2.45 trillion in nine months proves that the Nigerian capital market remains a vital engine for economic transformation.”

Capital market operators anticipate that primary market momentum will persist into the fourth quarter of 2026 as additional financial institutions and real-sector corporations conclude scheduled offer periods to meet regulatory and growth deadlines.
