A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, Nasiru Laraba, has issued a stern warning to the party’s leadership, stating that the political resurgence and emergence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mustapha Lamido, poses a formidable threat to the ADC’s electoral prospects in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday morning, October 18, 2026, during a broadcast engagement on Freedom Radio in Dutse, Laraba expressed deep concern over the political dynamics unfolding across the state. He noted that the PDP’s growing momentum, combined with ongoing internal feuds within the ADC, could jeopardize the party’s chances across all 27 local government areas of Jigawa State.

Highlighting the recent political activities of the opposition PDP, Laraba pointed to the impressive turnout at the inauguration of the PDP campaign council in Dutse as evidence of the party’s firm grassroots presence.

”We saw what happened at the inauguration of the PDP campaign council. The turnout was massive, and that shows the PDP remains very strong in Jigawa State. The emergence of Mustapha Lamido as their governorship standard-bearer poses a serious threat to the ADC’s chances in 2027 if we fail to put our house in order,” Laraba declared.

Laraba attributed the ADC’s vulnerability to unaddressed internal divisions and substitution disputes that followed the party’s primary elections. He singled out the failure of key stakeholders, including the ADC governorship candidate, Sabo Nakudu, to reconcile aggrieved party stalwarts, particularly founding father Hon. Adamu Jumbo.

”Adamu Jumbo is a founding father of the ADC in Jigawa State who sacrificed heavily to build this platform. He contested the primary election against Sabo Nakudu. Despite losing, no genuine attempt at reconciliation has been made by the leadership up till now. His supporters remain deeply aggrieved.”

Laraba further criticised candidate substitution practices and power-sharing controversies, alleging that recent entrants into the party were undermining the support base of key national figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in favor of external interests.

State ADC Chairperson Sani Muhammad previously confirmed that several candidates who legitimately won legislative primary tickets were replaced, fueling disquiet among rank-and-file members.

Concluding his remarks, Laraba called on the national and state executive committees of the ADC to intervene urgently before electioneering campaigns fully intensify.

”Hon. Jumbo has remained loyal, he did not defect or seek legal action. Yet, his supporters are being marginalised. If the leadership does not intervene to resolve these candidate disputes and unite the factions immediately, the PDP will comfortably capitalize on our division in 2027.”
