Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have rescued a one-month-old baby girl who was allegedly sold by her mother for ₦2 million shortly after her birth.
The command has arrested two suspects in connection with the crime: the infant’s 23-year-old mother, Cecilia Amos, and Dr. Adeleke Ebenezer (40), the owner of the medical facility where the child was delivered.
The incident unfolded in the Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State. According to law enforcement officials, the child was delivered on September 6, 2026, at Ebepraise Health Centre in Ido. Approximately seven days after the delivery, Cecilia disappeared with the infant and failed to account for her whereabouts.
Trouble escalated on October 15, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., when the baby’s grandmother, Mary Amos, a resident of the Ogunwade area in Ido, lodged a formal report at the local police station regarding her daughter’s suspicious behavior and the missing child.
Police operatives promptly initiated an investigation and apprehended Cecilia for questioning.
During interrogation, Cecilia confessed to selling her newborn daughter for ₦2 million. She revealed that she was lured into the illegal scheme by the health center owner, Dr. Adeleke Ebenezer, and an accomplice identified as Hassan Oludunni, who remains at large.
The suspects allegedly facilitated the sale of the infant to a buyer identified as Odunayo Folawewo.
Confirming the rescue and arrests in an official press statement on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that the infant had been successfully retrieved and is currently safe.
”She confessed during interrogation that the owner of the health facility and one Oludunni lured her into the arrangement and facilitated the sale of the baby to one Folawewo,” DSP Olayinka disclosed.
DSP Olayinka added that intensive efforts and intelligence-led operations are underway to track down Folawewo, Hassan Oludunni, and any other individuals connected to the trafficking syndicate to ensure they face justice.
Reiterating the command’s stance against human trafficking, the police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving child trafficking or abuse to authorities.
