Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command, have intercepted contraband shipments valued at ₦721,957,021.41 in Duty Paid Value (DPV) during targeted anti-smuggling sweeps along state border routes.

The seizures were detailed during a press briefing conducted by the command on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Area Command Headquarters in Sokoto.

Addressing correspondents at the command headquarters, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abdullahi, revealed that officers confiscated large consignments of illicit commodities. Among the seized goods were bales of second-hand clothing, foreign cigarettes, and unregistered pharmaceutical products lacking essential regulatory approvals.

Comptroller Abdullahi affirmed that the enforcement actions were carried out under the legal mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service, designed to dismantle economic sabotage and protect public health.

”We will continue to facilitate legitimate trade, collect revenue for national development, and suppress smuggling to the barest minimum,” Abdullahi stated during the address.

The command chief warned smugglers and illegal traders operating within the Sokoto and Zamfara axis that patrol operations have been bolstered to intercept illicit trade networks across all border points.
