Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has leveled a stern critique against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, declaring that the current administration has subjected Nigerians to the most severe cost-of-living crisis in the nation’s history.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during an opposition stakeholder town hall at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) promised a series of interventions aimed at bringing down prices and restoring security nationwide.

In his keynote address, Atiku directly challenged the administration’s claims of economic improvement. “A president cannot announce food on a family’s table or money into a worker’s pocket,” Atiku said, arguing that official reports of slowing inflation offer little consolation to citizens struggling to afford daily essentials.

He committed to establishing targeted fuel production subsidies tied directly to domestic refining, including modular facilities, to bring down pump prices and curb food transport costs.

On national security, Atiku linked rural instability directly to food inflation, detailing plans to decentralise security operations and strengthen intelligence capabilities to safeguard farming communities.

His Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, reinforced the candidate’s core message during a post-event briefing;

”The current administration has failed to safeguard both the lives and livelihoods of the Nigerian people. Atiku Abubakar offers a practical roadmap designed to restore fiscal discipline, enhance security infrastructure, and deliver immediate relief from relentless price hikes.”

ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola brought the session to a close, calling on party members and citizens across the country to organise ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle to deliver economic recovery.
