The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has asserted that his extensive legislative background and leadership stability make him the most competent candidate to lead the state in 2027.
Danladi-Salihu made the statement during an interactive session with media executives and civil society representatives held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat along Offa Road in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Addressing attendees at the forum, the Speaker highlighted his seven-year tenure overseeing the 24-member State Assembly as concrete evidence of his executive readiness and political maturity.
”Having served as Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly since 2019 without any leadership crisis or friction, I have gained deep, practical exposure to governance, public policy, and institutional management,” Danladi-Salihu said. “I am not coming into this race to learn on the job. Among those seeking to lead our state in 2027, my track record demonstrates that I possess the highest level of direct experience, political stability, and readiness to deliver continuity.”
Unveiling his agenda for the state, Danladi-Salihu outlined a three-point development framework focusing on security, human capital development, and economic industrialisation.
Speaking during the briefing, the Director-General of the Danladi-Salihu Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Abdulrahman Babatunde, stated that the campaign would focus on issue-based engagement across all 16 local government areas of the state.
”Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu represents the bridge between generational energy and tested public service experience,” Babatunde said. “His emergence as the APC flagbearer reflects the party’s confidence in a candidate who understands the legislative and executive dynamics necessary to build upon the foundation laid over the last seven years.”
Also addressing reporters, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Shehu Abdullahi Yusuf, emphasized that the candidate’s campaign will prioritize transparency and direct town-hall consultations with traditional leaders, youth coalitions, and local business groups starting later this month.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by state APC stakeholders, who reaffirmed their unity and readiness for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
