Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect following a formal valedictory session held on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The dissolution marks the formal conclusion of the executive arm’s duties for Governor Oyebanji’s initial term in office ahead of his second-term inauguration scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026.

The valedictory session commenced at 11:00 AM at the Executive Council Chamber, New Government House, Ado-Ekiti. Members of the cabinet, including commissioners, special advisers, and heads of agencies, gathered to review the administration’s milestones over the past four years.

Addressing the outgoing council members, Governor Oyebanji commended their dedication and contributions toward implementing his administration’s shared prosperity agenda. He described the outgoing cabinet as a formidable team whose synergy helped fulfill key developmental promises to the people of Ekiti State.

In an official statement released in Ado-Ekiti shortly after the meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, confirmed the dissolution of the cabinet.

According to the official statement, outgoing cabinet members were directed to hand over administration duties to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior career civil servants in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

However, to ensure smooth continuity in governance during the transition, key political appointees and administrative officers were retained in their positions, including Chief Press Secretary Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Prof. Habibat Adubiaro and Chief of Staff: Mr. Niyi Adebayo.

Directorships of statutory commissions, statutory governing councils of tertiary institutions, and select agency heads remain operational under earlier transitional guidelines.

The dissolution follows the earlier administrative winding-down steps announced by the government, which included the dissolution of non-statutory boards, commissions, and parastatals.

Governor Oyebanji, who secured his re-election during the June 20, 2026 governorship election, will officially take the oath of office for his second term on October 16, 2026, where a restructured cabinet is expected to be announced in the weeks following inauguration.
