The Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the immediate suspension of all its campaign activities nationwide for one week.

The decision was taken in honour of the victims of the tragic Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash that occurred in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The announcement was conveyed in an official statement released at 1:25 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from the campaign’s national headquarters in Abuja by the campaign spokesperson, John Alechenu.

According to the statement, all scheduled public rallies, town hall meetings, media appearances, and grassroots mobilization efforts across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have been halted with immediate effect. The suspension will remain in place until Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Expressing deep grief over the military tragedy, the SDP presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, along with his running mate, Dr. Usman Bugaje, offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen military personnel, the Nigerian Air Force leadership, and the government and people of Ondo State.

”The Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign is deeply devastated by the heartbreaking news of the NAF aircraft accident in the coastal riverine terrain of Igbokoda. In solidarity with our Armed Forces and the grieving families who lost their loved ones in the line of duty, we have directed a total pause on all public campaign events for seven days,” the statement read.

The crash, which occurred earlier in the week on Monday, October 5, 2026, in the marshy, difficult-to-access terrain of Igbokoda, has triggered widespread national mourning. Emergency recovery operations and official investigations into the cause of the fatal crash remain ongoing.

The Adebayo-Bugaje campaign urged party members, supporters, and all Nigerians to spend the one-week mourning period offering prayers for the souls of the deceased officers and for the comfort of their bereaved families.
