The Federal Government has released eight months’ arrears of the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic workers across federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.

The announcement was made in a press statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

According to the statement, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, confirmed that the funds cover the backlog owed for the period of January through August 2026.

The disbursement follows the recent clearance of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) for academic staff, ensuring that both teaching and non-teaching personnel across the tertiary education sector receive their reviewed allowances.

Dr. Alausa emphasised that the release of the long-awaited arrears aligns directly with the objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes worker welfare, institutional stability, and uninterrupted academic calendars.

”The payment reflects the unwavering commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to improving workers’ welfare, strengthening industrial harmony, and creating an enabling environment for the effective delivery of quality education,” Dr. Alausa stated.

The release of CONTA underscores the administration’s recognition that the welfare, motivation, and commitment of both academic and non-academic personnel are essential to the stability and effective functioning of our tertiary institutions.”

The Ministry confirmed that funds have been processed through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) infrastructure, with beneficiary institutions scheduled to credit affected workers’ accounts directly.
