President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the passing of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed.

​The prominent administrator and respected religious leader died in Abuja during the early hours of Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

​In an official condolence message issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the bereaved family, members of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, and the entire Muslim Ummah.

​President Tinubu extolled the late scribe’s dedication to service, justice, and community development, noting that Baba-Ahmed devoted over 26 years of his life advocating for peace, religious harmony, and social stability.

​Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, also announced the tragic loss on his verified social media platform on Tuesday morning, describing the late Secretary-General as a steadfast voice for fairness and service to humanity.

​”President Tinubu prays that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, admits him into Jannatul Firdaus, and grants his family and the Muslim Ummah the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” statement from the State House read.

​Funeral arrangements in accordance with Islamic rites are scheduled to take place in Abuja.
