The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a homicide investigation and manhunt following the murder of Mrs. Jemimah Dutse, a former Zonal Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi South.

The incident was officially reported to the police on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at approximately 2:07 p.m. A 49-year-old resident, identified as Mu’azu, alerted officers at the ‘E’ Division Police Station after discovering the victim’s body inside her house in the Mu’azu New Layout area of Yelwa, Bauchi metropolis.

According to a press statement released on Sunday, October 4, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Bauchi State Command, SP Nafiu Habib, detectives dispatched to the scene found Mrs. Dutse lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit by unknown assailants.

”Upon receipt of the report, detectives attached to ‘E’ Division promptly visited the scene, documented it, and evacuated the body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy,” SP Habib stated.

Following the preliminary findings, the Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the case transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a full investigation.

”The investigation is aimed at unravelling the circumstances surrounding her murder and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” Habib added, confirming that no arrests have been made yet. “The command commiserates with the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased and assures the public that no stone will be left unturned to ensure justice is served.”

Civil society organisations and local political groups have condemned the killing, calling on law enforcement to ensure a transparent investigation and maintain updates as the search for the perpetrators continues.
