President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo, and Osun states, a major tactical expansion designed to strengthen local defense networks and accelerate response times to violent security threats.

The Commander-in-Chief disclosed the strategic deployments during a national security update in Abuja on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The newly established military units are positioned to bridge long-standing tactical gaps in regions vulnerable to banditry, kidnapping, and communal disputes.

”By bringing operations closer to rural communities and high-risk zones, our security forces are better positioned to prevent attacks before they escalate,” President Tinubu said. He added that the strategic positioning ensures swift tactical responses to emergencies across the geopolitical zones.

Alongside the operational deployments, the President outlined ongoing investments in military infrastructure and personnel welfare. Construction is being accelerated for new barracks, depots, and administrative quarters across Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi, and Kogi states, following the recent completion of similar infrastructure developments in Osun State.

Speaking through official government channels, executive spokespersons emphasized that these developments form part of a broader overhaul of Nigeria’s defense framework.

The initiatives combine enhanced hardware, infrastructure, and recent pay adjustments across the armed forces to boost troop morale and operational capacity.

Government officials confirmed that the newly activated formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo, and Osun are fully manned and actively coordinating with local state authorities to secure critical transit corridors and farming communities.
