The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has described organized labour’s three-day warning strike over the rising cost of living as a direct referendum against President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, questioning the administration’s moral and political justification to seek a second term.

In an official statement released on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in Abuja by MDPCO Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, the campaign organization declared that the industrial action highlights the severe impact of the current administration’s economic policies.

“The warning strike is a direct referendum on a failed government; a stark measure of how ill-conceived and ill-implemented economic policies have triggered widespread poverty in Nigeria,” Ihediwa stated. “We ask, how can a government that failed to shield its citizens from the consequences of its policies credibly ask the same citizens to renew its mandate?”

The campaign organization criticized the Federal Government’s fiscal management, citing delayed capital budget implementations, continuous borrowing, lack of transparency, and the failure of promised gains from fuel subsidy removals to manifest in the lives of ordinary citizens.

“The APC government that lit the ‘fire’ now consuming the entire nation has become a firefighter without a hose,” the statement continued. “When wages lose value, the cost of living keeps rising, and workers barely survive, government statistics and celebratory claims become meaningless.”

Presenting its candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, running under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the campaign urged Nigerians to embrace its alternative platform ahead of the January 2027 presidential polls.

The MDPCO pledged that its proposed administration would implement its “Reset Nigeria Agenda,” focusing on data-driven policies, transparent social safety nets, intensive national production, and improved security to rebuild the national economy.
