The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a blistering verbal assault on Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, describing the former Minister of Transportation as a “loafer” who is unfit for the presidency or vice presidency.

In a fiery official press release issued on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC heavily criticized Amaechi’s recent public statements concerning his financial state and the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.

The ruling party’s sharp attack comes in response to claims made by Amaechi, currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), that he could not afford the medication required to care for his 89-year-old mother before her passing due to the prevailing economic situation.

Addressing the public statements, the APC offered mock condolences while condemning what it termed Amaechi’s “uncanny confessions.”

”First, he howled that he had become so broke and hungry that his wife was now feeding him. Now, he has stated that his inability to afford medications killed his mother at 89,” the statement read.

The APC argued that Amaechi, who spent nearly four decades in top-tier public roles, serving as a two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a two-term Governor of Rivers State, and a two-term Minister of Transportation, spent his career “freeloading at the highest levels of public office” where he could easily afford medications and comfortable living standards.

The governing party spared no words in questioning Amaechi’s ability to survive or generate income outside of government patronage, suggesting he was suffering from a lack of self-sufficiency.

”Just three years out of office, he has become destitute, unable to fend for himself and his loved ones. If Amaechi is not struggling with some kind of Peter Pan syndrome, then he must be a loafer, aimless and irresponsible for his inability to be productive and earn a living outside the patronage of public office,” Morka declared.

The party extended a sarcastic plea to employers of labor in Amaechi’s hometown of Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, asking them to offer the former governor a job so he can earn enough to purchase basic medications and feed his family during his retirement.

Turning its attention to the upcoming 2027 general elections, the APC rejected Amaechi’s ambition on the ADC ticket, accusing him of seeking power merely to return to public funds.

”The same Rotimi Amaechi now asks Nigerians to make him vice president come 2027 so he can continue leeching on the public treasury and keep the predatory lifestyle he has grown accustomed to. The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” Morka stated.

The statement concluded by noting that Amaechi’s own admissions demonstrate his “unfitness for the office of Vice President,” asserting that no critic could make a stronger case against his candidacy than the former governor himself.
