Dr. Dangut officially assumed office on October 1, 2026, for a five-year term that spans until September 2031. His appointment was ratified during the 74th Annual Meeting of the Council’s International Governing Board held in Accra, Ghana.

The announcement was formally released on October 2, 2026, from the WAEC International Headquarters in Accra, Ghana. Speaking on behalf of the regional examining body, Moyosore Adesina, Head of Public Affairs at the WAEC International Office, confirmed the leadership transition.

”Dr. Dangut brings over two decades of distinguished service, technical expertise, and administrative leadership to the council,” Adesina stated during the briefing. “His visionary work in assessment technology makes him extraordinarily suited to steer WAEC into its next era of educational assessment.”

Prior to his appointment as Registrar/CEO, Dr. Dangut served as the Head of the WAEC Nigeria National Office from October 2023 to September 2026. During his tenure leading the Nigerian office, he spearheaded several key digital initiatives:

Integrity & Security Measures: Introduced the serialisation of question papers to curb examination malpractice and streamlined logistics via automated tracking platforms.

Candidate Portals: Expanded access to academic credentials through the launch of the WAEC Digital Certificate Portal and the WAEC E-Study Platform.

Dr. Dangut began his career in education in 1994 as a teacher at St. Louis College, Jos, before joining WAEC in 1998 as Assistant Registrar II. Over 28 years with the council, he served across various operational roles, including Assistant Registrar in the Test Development Division in Ogba, Lagos; Branch Controller in Yola; and Zonal Coordinator for the Ikeja Zonal Office.

He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science, alongside a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning.
