The Oyo State Government has condemned the abduction of some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Oyo origin in Imo State, describing the incident as distressing and expressing concern for the affected corps members and their families.
The state Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday. He said the government was deeply concerned about the incident and had extended its support to the abducted young Nigerians and their families while efforts continued to secure their safe release.
According to the statement, the Oyo Government was in communication with relevant security agencies, the Imo State Government and the leadership of the NYSC to coordinate an urgent response to the situation.
It added that Gov. Seyi Makinde had directed that all necessary resources be deployed towards securing the release of the victims and ensuring their safe return to their families. The government said the safety and well-being of every Oyo indigene, whether within or outside the state, remained a priority for the administration.
It urged the families of the abducted corps members to remain calm while assuring them that the state government was actively working with relevant authorities to resolve the situation.
The Oyo Government also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and ensure that those responsible for the abduction were brought to justice.
It reiterated its commitment to working with the authorities and other stakeholders until the affected corps members were safely reunited with their families.
