The police have arraigned five men before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over the alleged theft of a tricycle valued at N7 million. The defendants, identified as Akeem Mudashiru, 45; Samad Emiola, 26; Michael Adetola, 22; Tajudeen Gbolahan, 31; and Saheed Adebayo, 26, are facing charges bordering on conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on Sept. 18 at the Nitel Oniyanrin area of Ibadan. He alleged that the five men conspired to steal a tricycle belonging to Gamma Mobility Company, with the vehicle valued at N7 million.
Adegbenro said the alleged offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them before the court.
Following their pleas, Magistrate Olasinmibo Sanusi granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate also stipulated that the sureties must be blood relations of the respective defendants before the bail conditions could be met.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until Oct. 19 for hearing. The adjournment will allow the matter to proceed while the defendants remain subject to the bail conditions imposed by the court.
